Portage Additions
Some afternoon updates/thoughts.....
1) There was a pretty strong rumour going around back in spring 2006 that the reason Brian Pallister did not seek to replace Stu Murray was that his eldest daughter was adamantly against leaving Ottawa and her school and her friends there. This was as reasonable an explanation as any other, including the idea that Brian didn't want to risk it because his full pension had not kicked in yet.
That might have made the Pallisters realize that their daughters did not feel a connection to their home province and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they decided right there and then to return as soon as possible in order to give the teens some semblance of Manitoba life before they head off to university and possibly leave the province for good?

2) So why now? Brian was elected in November 2000. Probably swore in in late 2000 or early 2001....*starts counting fingers*.....Hey now! That means he's got seven years put in as of now. That means full pension, don't it?
3) I've got people telling me that David Faurschou *is* looking at a run. I've also got others telling me he's absolutely not thinking of a run. I tend to believe the latter group, though I cannot see why he wouldn't look at it at least.
4) Non-Portage Related: The CEO search continues....Just hire Doug for the job already and be done with it. (Though I'm really starting to wonder on that Steek thing...)

5) Back to Portage, I don't believe that the NDP take the seat in a by-election. Like Lac Du Bonnet's by-election in 2001, it would likely be hard fought, but stay Tory Blue.
the ceo job is already picked, and you will never guess who it is ;)
i kinda like it.

uncle bob, I was sworn to not tell anyone, it's 99% for sure....it might piss off a few people , but it will give the party a good shake up.

I like that a guy who actually came to 23 Kennedy to "resign" from the PC Party of Manitoba and is the leader of a different "party" somehow knows what nobody on the board knows. Including the search committee. And Leader.

came to 23 kennedy to resign ?? no , i just didn't renew.
leader of another party ??
that gimmick is long over. i am not leading anything. are people still taking that seriously ? ! PLEASE !
You think that the board and leader don't know ? of course they do. i still have my sources and friends who leak things to me.
as for the shake up, maybe i should have said that another way. actually the new ceo will make the mla's work a little harder...that's what i meant.

Make the MLAs work harder? In what way? Delegation of responsibilities for elected party members comes from the leader's office, not from 23 Kennedy. Fundraising efforts and communication with party members is the role of 23 Kennedy and the party is supposed to be there to help the MLAs with that, not ask them to do more.
The problem with the party currently is that we have begun to pile too much responsibility on a small group of people, namely, the MLAs. Fundraising efforts seem to stall without the MLAs leading the charge and we have to get away from that if we're going to be successful. We can't keep asking MLAs to spearhead efforts to sell dinner tickets, sponsor holes at the golf tourny, arrange crowds for speaking engagements, ect. These are the responsibilities of the CEO to root out volunteers to do these things and make the jobs of the MLAs EASIER. I know alot of us are unhappy with the performance of most of our MLAs in the house(me included), but having them find donors for the fall dinner silent auction isn't gonna make up for that.

Anon....I agree with some of what you say.....the MLA's should not be in charge of finding donors for the silent auctions....that is not what they are paid for , and that is members jobs.
But you make it sound like the mla's are working too hard. Bullshit. The PC's have MLA's that are on holidays for several months each year, the member from Tuxedo does next to nothing. She is useless. When she has a little personnal problem she goes to f'ing maui to relax.....she can't handle ANY amount of pressure, in fact , when she reads this, she will need another holiday to deal with it. She is weak and so is many other MLA's. It's why Reimer lost last election. He was not working. Go and see which mla's keep increasing the percentage they win by , and you can judge who is working and who is not. The NDP even gave Hugh a little run for his money in his seat last time, not close, but the ndp got way too many votes in fort whyte.
MLA's should be out talking to people, they are not doing that. They can't expect the media to do everything for them.

I get that, but you said the new CEO is going to make them work harder and that is not in his/her job discription.
The PC MLAs need to find ways to be innovative and capture the attention of the public outside of question period. Even with only 18 MLAs, there's still no way that that hour session is going to allow the majority to get any face time. Work the media on their own time and we'll see who's worth keeping around.

well maybe that should be in their job description. from my understanding the ceo would be attending caucas meetings. somebody has to crack the whip, because the leader sure isn't.
