"Hey! Why Shouldn't An 11-Year Old Be Walking Around The Streets In The Middle Of The Night?"

Look, I feel badly for the girl having to go through this awful experience.  And if they find the guy and convict him, I would cheerlead for a lifetime sentance, even if it meant building a new prison to host the scumbag.

Sgt. Dennison is also right about the bigger picture as well:

"I know a lot of people will probably be asking, 'What is an 11-year-old doing out at that time of the day?" police spokesman Sgt. Kelly Dennison said Sunday.

"I think the bigger question is: where can we find the sexual predator who did this?"

That being said, the first questions deserves a lot of attention as well by non-police groups.

Of course they should go after the perv and hang em high , but the question of why she was on the street that late needs to be dealt with. It's only a matter of time before it happens to one of the 5 year olds that runs around the north end on welfare weekends at 1 am

It would be great if we lived in a world where nobody had to worry about being on the street at 1am, but fact is we there are dangers out there, and there was an definite lapse of parenting here it appears. Not to mention that, even if nothing happens, the kid is missing sleep.

There is a NewWinnipeg thread on this with some heated debate.
